Our History

EIS Housing Resource Center was founded in 1984 by Gloria W. Milliken to serve low- and moderate-income residents in mid-town and Manhattan’s East Side.

This work began in response to requests from neighborhood hospitals, universities, public schools, churches, synagogues, senior citizen’s and social service organizations which identified a need for a full-time program to deal with basic housing problems and related services.

The needs of the community have shaped the organization’s priorities, and we have evolved into a homelessness prevention organization. Seeing a desperate need for help resolving clutter, EIS began offering services to support tenants and prevent their eviction.  EIS is the only focused housing organization in New York City that helps people confront hoarding issues.
